Who We Are
Lucero Sanchez
Board President
Lucero Sanchez joined the LCVSD board in 2022. Lucero is the Community Policy Coordinator at San Diego Coastkeeper where she supports the organization’s policy and advocacy work through community engagement to ensure environmental justice and equity. She also sits on San Diego County’s Environmental Health and Quality Advisory board. She has worked for and volunteered for campaigns at all levels of government in the past.
Lucero holds a B.A. in Environmental Systems from the University of California San Diego, where she specialized in Environmental Policy.
Matt O'Malley
Board Vice President
A long-time advocate and attorney, Matt O’Malley currently serves as the Executive Director and Managing Attorney with San Diego Coastkeeper where he leads the organization’s legal, policy, and advocacy work while overseeing and guiding the organization’s education, science, and community engagement programs and staff. At Coastkeeper Matt utilizes strategic traditional and cross-sector partnerships, and local, state, and national laws and regulations to further the organizational mission to protect and restore San Diego County’s waterways and watersheds while ensuring humans and the environment recognize their fundamental right to clean water. Matt also serves as an alternate commissioner to the California Coastal Commission, as the Legal Committee Chair and Board Member of the California Coastkeeper Alliance, and he is actively licensed to practice law in California, Florida, and Washington State.
Livia Borak Beaudin
Board Member
Livia Borak Beaudin joined the Board in 2011. Livia is an attorney at the Encinitas law firm Coast Law Group LLP, where she specializes in environmental law in both administrative proceedings and litigation.
She also serves as Legal Advisor to the nonprofit Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation.
Sara Kent Ochoa
Board Member
Sara joined the LCVSD Board in 2022. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cleveland National Forest Foundation since 2007 and as the volunteer Programs Director for the Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation since 2008. She is also principal of Evergreen Strategies SD, a consulting firm focused on public relations, lobbying, and advocacy for infill housing development projects, responsible land use policy, and transit oriented development with an emphasis on responsibility toward the local labor movement.
Kyra R. Greene, PhD
Board Member
Dr. Greene is a research and policy analyst at the Center on Policy Initiatives with a focus on budget and infrastructure policy. In this capacity, she works in coalitions that include conservation and environmental justice organizations to insure equitable and environmentally sound public infrastructure investment in the San Diego region.
Previously, she was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at San Diego State University where she taught courses on socioeconomic inequality, race, and qualitative research methods.
Dr. Greene’s past research has focused on social movement messaging/framing, legislative processes and public policies affecting the lives of people of color and people with disabilities.
Abbie Hawkins
Board Member
Abbie Hawkins joined the Board in 2019 because of her motivation for environmental sustainability. Abbie studied Natural Resources at Colorado State University, where she became very interested in sustainable building and the built environment. Abbie graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Real Estate. Abbie works on entitlements for infill development projects with Pacifica Companies. Her passion is to create sustainable, transit oriented projects, that decrease the environmental impacts of urban sprawl.
Mike Young
Board Member
Mike Young is the Political & Organizing Director for the California League of Conservation Voters. He has extensive experience working with key political and grassroots community partners to build strategic relationships that have helped both identify and support environmental leaders, as well as hold legislators accountable to their community’s concerns. Mike is a graduate of Pepperdine University, and he earned B.A.s in Political Science and Philosophy, as well as an Undergraduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution.
